Reported by Matthew

Hello, it’s Matthew again reporting to you on what happened on February 10, 2011 in Mr. Coley’s class.

When I arrived to school, the bell rang at 8:20 and I went to room 34 to put my backpack down and go to the field to do P.E. Today we ran a mile.

After P.E, we went in the classroom and did our morning business. During morning business we got our homework out from last night, wrote our homework down for the next day, and checked our boxes. We also corrected our homework and I got a100 % on my states and capitals word search. Then, we talked about our history and spelling homework and also talked about our geography test we are going to be taking tomorrow. Then we got our science weekly newspapers, and he talked to us about heredity. Heredity is when your family genes are passed on from one generation to another.  Mr. Coley used an example of how we get brown eyes and blue eyes from our parents. I think it’s pretty amazing how we are created. We then corrected our Science Weekly and I got another 100 %. WOW, I’m on a roll today!

After morning business, we read Narnia the Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. We read chapter 13. The chapter was about how the White Witch wanted to kill Edmund, the younger boy of the two brothers. Then Mr. Coley told us to start working on story maps. Story maps are long detailed sentences about what we read in the chapter. When you’re done with the sentence, you get to draw and color the events that took place in sentence.

Next, we got into our colony creation groups. I am in the flag group. We worked on our creation. Our colony is called Brentsylvania. Brentsylvania is the name that our class made up for our colony. We finished coloring the flag we created and we started our rough draft about the flag.

After that, it was recess time. Mr. Coley dismissed us for recess and I went straight to the swings. Alex, my awesome cousin, and I talked on the swings. The bell rang and we went back to Mr. Coley’s classroom to get our math stuff out and got ready to go to math class. I go to Mr. Henning’s class for math.

In Math class, we reviewed dividing decimals and then we took a 12 problem quiz on them. I think I did a pretty good job. After we were done with the quiz, we turned it in and read our silent reading book while he was grading some of the quizzes. I am reading the book Among the Barons by Margret Peterson Haddix. It is the fourth book in the Shadow Children Series.

Later, Mr. Henning dismissed us to go back to homeroom. At homeroom, I put my math away, got my science stuff out, and headed to lunch. At lunch, I waited for my mom to bring my lunch. She brought me a yummy lunch, kibbeh. Kibbeh is a Syrian food that is shaped like a football. It is a fried rice and meat ball stuffed with beef. I also had an apple and a Kool Aid for a drink. After I ate, my friend Jonathan and I played basketball together. It was an awesome game. I love basketball. The bell rang and lunch was over! It was time to go back to Mr. Coley’s class.

Next was science. In science, we learned about air pressure. Air pressure can be changed by four different things. The first thing is the amount of space. The second thing is the height above Earth. The third thing is temperature. And the fourth thing is the amount of water vapor or the humidity. After that, we worked on our science crossword puzzle. We get a puzzle every time we finish a lesson. Then we corrected the crossword puzzle. I got all of them right.

At the end of the day, Mr. Coley read to us the Tale of Despereaux. After he read the  Tale of Despereaux, we packed our stuff. When the bell rang at 2:30, Mr. Coley dismissed us and said, “Have a great day!”
