Reported by Marcus

Today is Thursday, February 17th, 2011 and it was cold and foggy when I first came to school around 8:05 a.m. I talked with my friends near our classroom until the bell rang. When class started we got our homework so that it could be checked in by Mr. Coley. Afterward he checked the homework in, we worked on our journals. Then we said the Pledge of Allegiance. Once we finished saying the Pledge of Allegiance, we corrected our journals. After that, we corrected our homework from the night before.

The only thing we did for States and Capitals was listen to a song by the Hip Hop Professor. The Hip Hop Professors sings about the states and capitals and Mr. Coley also told us that listening to the song can help you if you listen to it over and over. It helps because it can help you remember which state is which. The next thing we had to do was a comprehension quiz. The next thing on the agenda was listen as Mr. Coley read a chapter from the book, The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe. When he finished reading we had to do a story map. A story map is something we do after every chapter that Mr. Coley read’s from the book, The Lion, The Witch & The Wardrobe.

Later in the morning we were able to get some time to work on our State Report projects. We were able to work on notes or our coloring pages in the other packet. Also, some of us had to do recording with Mr. Coley on our colony that we made in class.

After getting time to work on our State Report project, we finally were able to go to recess. At recess I played football with a couple of friends.

When the bell rang, we came back in for math. The students all left to go to their assigned math class. I am assigned to Mr. Coley’s math class so I stayed in his classroom. The first thing that we did was show Mr. Coley our homework which was page 359 in our math book, and a practice quiz. Right after that we did math cards. Math cards are a warm up for us. Once we finished with the math cards we corrected our homework. Shortly after, we took our math test. Our math session ended at around 12:50 p.m.

Following math, was lunch. Today in the cafeteria for lunch was hamburgers. After I had eaten my lunch with my friends, I went to the wall ball courts and I played wall ball with my friend Myles and a couple of other kids. It was kind of hard doing wall ball since I hadn’t played it in a while.

In the afternoon we went to the computer lab and the first thing we did was Fast Math or Fraction Nation. The next thing we did was research if you hadn’t finished your state report notes but if you had finished your notes you were able to color your map, flag or bird.

It was a pretty long day for our fifth grade class but we have a three day weekend to look forward to! This is Marcus your Roving Reporter signing off! I hope you enjoyed reading this article on the things that happened today inside and outside of Room 34.
