Reported by Kiya

Hi I’m Kiya, and I will be telling you about our day at school. First, we dropped off our backpacks, and went to Friday Flag with Mrs. Coley, our sub. Friday Flag is where Mr. Banks, our principal, shares some announcements. Some of the announcements today were that there was going to be bingo night at Thompson Middle School tonight starting at 6pm. There was also an announcement that Jump rope for Heart was coming up. Jump rope for Heart is where we raise money for a heart association.

Today after Friday Flag we went to listen to some music in the M.P.R. (Multi Purpose Room). But first we went out to play while there were two classrooms already listening to music. I played basketball with my friends. We were outside for about twenty or fifteen minutes when it was our turn to go inside and listen to some music. The person who was there and who taught us was Andrew. He played a couple of songs for us and taught us about 8th notes and 16th notes.

We then came into the classroom and the first thing Mrs. Coley said was, “Privacy boards up, please, we are about to take the states and capitals quiz!” We always had to do our quiz on Friday first. While we were working on it some people were finished before others, so the people who finished first got to check their mailbox and then work on their writing prompt if they didn’t finish the day before. Or they just got to read. After everyone was done we then checked our homework. Our very important final draft of our state report was due. After we checked our homework, we were about to do Literature Circles but we did Social Studies instead.

In social studies we were working on the American Revolution. We were doing flowchart notes, flowchart notes is where you write notes and draw pictures to go along with the notes. We had done a couple of notes when it was time to go on to Literature Circles.

Literature Circles is where you are put into groups, and you choose a book and you also choose which chapters you want to do for the week. Then you would rotate with five jobs, Discussion Director, Word Finder, Connector, Correspondent, and Illustrator. Every week you would meet and go over everything, and then see what the next chapters are going to be. So our group was reading a book called The Westing Game. We read chapters one through seven, and we went over our jobs and then we decided we would read chapters eight through fourteen.

It was time for recess, and I wanted to play basketball. It was so fun! There are also things like football, tetherball, wallball, and more!

After recess, we came back to our classroom, and from there went to our math class. In math we are put into different groups based on our level. I have Mrs. Ramos. As soon as we came in we had to have our homework out and we then corrected it. Then Mrs. Ramos gave us an unexpected math quiz. It took us about 30 minutes to finish that up, but once we were done we briskly got started for a math-like bingo. It was geometry Friday! Every Friday we play some kind of game or earned something. We played quizmo until the end of the math period. If you won you got to pick a piece of candy!

Around 12:55 pm we went out to lunch. They give us about 15 minutes to eat, and then we can go out to play! I played basketball again.

At 1:40pm, we came into the classroom and Mrs. Coley read aloud from the book, House on the Gulf. She stopped reading when it was time to play Deal or No Deal. This game interacts with school because every week Mr. Coley will put up a homophone challenge up on the wall. You get to put your guess in a can, and if at the end of the week you get picked and you have no homework missing you get to play! This week question was, what do you call rabbit’s fur? The answer was hare hair. Or you could have put hare’s hairs. We play off the internet and put it on the projector, and the student of the week gets to be the clicker. There was no student of the week this week because Mrs. Coley felt that he or she didn’t deserve it. So we picked another person, Grant. The person who would be playing was Anthony M.. We played for red vines. He went with the deal, 84,000 dollars. If you transform it into red vines it equals three.

After we did that we went outside for free play! If you had a homework slip you didn’t get to go. I had a homework slip, so I stayed inside Mr. Henning’s class with all the other students who were in study hall. After that the bell rang and we were all dismissed. I hope you enjoyed our day!
